Welcome to another ‘show preview’ edition of Bead and Jewellery Magazine. It is amazing how fast the shows come around and suddenly our October show is almost upon us! As ever, the show will be giving you lots of amazing beads and bargains, plus a fabulous array of workshops, a chance to meet some top designers from the bead and jewellery world, and, of course, the demonstration area.
Inspiration
So, in this issue I want to whet your appetite for the fun that is ahead. We are thrilled that Kleshna, who is becoming a Big Bead Show regular, has written a very special Tips, Tricks and Techniques along with a project for you to make using her brilliant Bangle Weaver tool. If you are conscious of the approach of Autumn, then why not celebrate the season with Donna Sander’s beautiful leaf pendant? Neena Shilvock also has some fabulous polymer clay petals that make a beautiful, very tactile necklace. We have also featured some of the new beads in some simple, but effective projects, so you can get prepared to indulge in some new bead purchases at the show. Anna Lindell is back with a fabulous tiger pendant inspired by her ‘Tigerguld’ brand. Hortense Thompson has another clever bangle – an oval design created to mimic the natural wrist shape. I thought I would make something different for me. I rarely make earrings and I have no idea why this is: I had a great time designing the waterfall earrings for this issue, so I’m obviously going to have to try my hand at more earrings in the future!
Favourites
We also have projects from favourite shops like Riverside Beads, who are very popular show attendees, and another beautiful design in our Trendsetters series, from Stefanie Deddo Evans. Of course the book reviews will give you some new ideas to try and our regular features, ‘Design’ and ‘Inspirational Motifs’ will hopefully persuade you to try something new. Jenny Argyle has created a lovely Kumihimo project and also shares her bead beginnings in ‘Where It All Began’.
We have recently said goodbye to our US editor, Brita Moore. She has done a fabulous job on BeadMe and, more recently, alongside me on Bead and Jewellery. This issue features her last interview with the fabulous US bead artist Corey Stein, so I hope you will enjoy that. We all want to thank Brita for her wonderful work with us and to wish her every success for the future.
So, get yourself ready for Big Bead Show fun. We look forward to seeing you all there!
