We recently visited Hammond Angoras to talk to Jane-Ann Rogers about how seeing some sweet angora goats at a show led to a whole new business (or way of life) for the last 15 or 20 years. Jane-Ann has a relatively small herd of goats and as well as looking after the goats over the years she has also learned to dye and spin their fleece. She has some of her fleeces spun at a small commercial spinner and sells the yarn as well as fleece and skins.
When we visited her most of her does had kidded within the previous couple of weeks so we were able to see the young kids as well as the adult goats.
Whoever said 'never perform with animals or kids' was obviously not referring to young angora goats but we did have some fun trying to get the goats to go where we wanted.
Our attempts to entice them with new young leaves was less than successful.
So some people played with the cat (Laura is editor of Cat World magazine as well as a presenter on Knit1 TV)
until we decided we would have to go to the goats!
Some goats will go to any lengths to get at those juicy young leaves.
We finally finished filming and Tug and Jaspar got a few extra shots of the kids.
