Spring is in the air...

Now, here’s a question for all cat owners who keep their cats indoors all year round.
Does your cat’s behaviour change with the seasons? I always notice when Fred gets SAD during the dark, cold, winter months and again in spring or summer when he is a happier bunny and frankly, rarely in the house.
Fred is a natural cat and by that I mean he goes out in his tuxedo and has a free life. He is an open book when it comes to moods and I can already see him looking at the great outdoors and getting his explorer’s spirit back. I wondered if cats that are kept indoors show the same changes in mood and behaviour with the seasons?
Also we are running an article on stimulating environments for indoor cats in our March issue and with that in mind I would be interested to hear how people with indoor cats have developed clever ideas to keep them entertained. You know the address: laura@ashdown.co.uk

I met a famous cat

I'm in love. I met a famous cat of Friday. We were out filming for Cat World TV  - a new, rare breed called the Khao Manee and the breeder also breeds Burmese cats. Well, to be more specific, she bred and owns Lazarus - who is the Burmese cat featured in the Iams television adverts. What a fine example he is too. 'Laz' is a chocolate Burmese with the most friendly, sociable and affectionate nature. I've got his autograph too - his breeder painted his paw with food colouring and pressed it onto a postcard of his official Iams photograph! Laz didn't mind a bit. What a dude!

Nice day out

Tee Hee! I'm excited. We're out filming later this week at breeder Chrissy Russell's place in Hampshire. She and fellow breeder Tina Turner (not THAT Tina Turner) are the first to import the Khao Manee breed into the UK. The wha? Khao Manees are beautiful, slender, white cats with odd colour eyes - very pretty, even the boys. Needless to say they come from Bangkok.

The One Show

Did you see Joe Inglis on The One Show last night ("One, O-nne, Onnne")? You see, it's true about male cats holding in their wee in cold weather and getting urinary tract infections (if they are outdoor pee'ers that is). Despite my putting two litter trays out for Fred during the heavy snow, he always chose to tiptoe his way through the snow rather than use his tray. I guess he had found a reasonable spot to pee that wasn't too frozen. Funny isn't it, you just can't make cats do what they don't want to, even when it is to help them! Stubborn little individuals - that's why I love 'em!

Being a very coastal town, we rarely get snow...something about being protected by the sea and the South Downs. However we have had a few inches lately, but not half as much as the rest of Britain, so I hope you are all safe and sound?
