Today has been a strange old day, not least because of the weather! Sunny one minute, then throwing it down with rain, then sunny again. Not as strange as yesterday though – hail as large as golf balls I heard! I decided to hide at home today – I live right round the corner from Goodwood Racecourse and this weekend is their Festival of Speed, I didn’t fancy contending with all the extra traffic when getting to work. As far as I’m concerned the name is very ironic when it comes to my commute…
So whilst listening to all the Red Arrows from the festival flying overhead I have busied myself at home, in my ‘office’ affectionately known as ‘The Bead Room’. I have been experimenting with sparkly Shamballa style beads, I’ve discovered they make great centres for beading around with brick stitch! I wish I had some yellow ones, because I can just picture them surrounded by white seed beads for some cute and sparkly daisies! I’m not quite sure what this is to become as yet.
I’ve also been experimenting with decorating plain hematite beads with nail varnish (bit random, yes) and I love the sparkly effect that can be achieved by just adding the varnish to one side. I thought these would look really sweet in earrings where they could dangle and be allowed to move, so the colour variation could be seen. You’ll be able to see what prompted this in my blog post next week.
The Bead Room is my creative space, I like to lock myself away in here and bash wire, make a mess and generally be creative. I’ve really enjoyed over the last few issues reading about readers’ craft rooms, I hope you have too. It’s great to be able to have a nosy into other beaders’ hoards and get ideas for your own storage solutions. I’m planning on including mine in a future issue, but first it needs a massive tidy up, as I’ve taken ‘creative mess’ to a whole new level. A job for this weekend me thinks.
Some other things that happened at Bead HQ this week include putting Bead Issue 40 ‘to bed’ - meaning the next jam packed issue of the mag will be available very soon!
We’ve also been working on lots of new interactive books, which are designed especially for the iPad! Look out for some new titles coming soon! If you’ve got an iPad and want to see what all the fuss is about you can download samples of our current titles from the iBookstore now!
Just released today are new films on Bead.TV, including this colourful necklace by Harriet from Ilona Biggins. I just love the colours in this! You can find this and all the other latest releases on Bead.TV.
Here’s to a great weekend, whatever you may be doing. I just hope you are able to find some time to squeeze in your favourite hobby amongst all the boring weekend chores which seem to mount up!
Happy Beading!
